Business Development Workshops
The Chamber and The Small Business Development Center are hosting workshops focusing on first steps to starting a new business. Local attorneys, bankers and business owners will be the featured speakers. Those currently scheduled to speak are Tim Riegel, Fast Eddie’s Hot Rod Shop; Jacque Gage, Barton County Libraries; Rayma Davis, The Lamar Democrat; James Nichols, Nichols & Nichols and Barton County Title Company; Mike Buchanan, Metropolitan National Bank, and Becky Maberry, Mailboxit Express & Denim and Lace.. Women’s Leadership Conference
The Small Business Development Center at Missouri Southern State University hosted a Women’s Leadership Conference Tuesday, June 26th. During the conference, Nancy Curless joined over 70 other area women and men to hear from successful female leaders and entrepreneurs.
Panel members and presentations included: Kim Vann, Small Business Manager of Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, “Communication and How to Be Taken Seriously” in the work world; Jane Lant, Owner of Lant’s Bridal Garden “The Importance of Teamwork”; Michelle Ducre, Executive Director of Community Health Clinic of Joplin, “Workplace Communication”; Debbie Fowler, Senior Vice President of Southwest Missouri Bank “Leadership Styles of Men and Women” and Priscilla McKinney, owner of Merchant Services Department, “People Skills”. All presentations covered situations relevant to working and succeeding in today’s business environment.
